51st Golden Knight Malta International Short Film Festival 2013


Argentina, Germany, Spain and Serbia win the Golden Knight Awards

The Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival, organised by the Malta Cine Circle, has now reached its final stages. A total of  284  productions  were received from 31 countries across the globe.  For the past weeks four pre-selection teams had the arduous task of nominating those  productions to be forwarded for the final judging.   The five members of the  jury met earlier this week and this is their final  decision:

The festival will be held over two evenings, on Thursday, 28th. November, when a selection of some of the best entries will be shown, and, on Friday 29th. November, when the winning films will be shown and the awards will be presented. The shows will be held at the Gemini Hall, hotel Le Meridien, St. Julian’s at 7.30pm. Entrance is free and seats may be reserved by calling 9946-0866 or 9947-2513.

National Film Competition 2013


The National Film Competition 2013 is now open for entries! It's a fantastic opportunity to get your work broadcast to a wider audience and we are keen to see entries from both new and established filmmakers who are driving short film forward. Make the film, submit the film and contribute to the domestic cinema.
The winning films receive fantastic prizes including:
- First Prize
- Second Prize
- Third Prize
- Best Acting Performance
- Best Use of Sound
- Best Editing
Films should be no longer than 20 minutes. A €15 Entry Fee is to accompany the Entry Form for the first entry, then an additional €5 for every other entry, if the competitor is entering more than one production. The fee also entitles the entrant membership within the Circle. MCC members are exempt from the Entry Fee. There are no limits to the number of entries permitted.

Annual General Meeting


The Annual General Meeting of the Malta Cine Circle will be held on:

Monday 25 March at the German – Maltese Circle  premises – St. Christopher Street – Valletta at 6pm.

The meeting will be followed by a show of short films entered for the 2012 Golden Knight Festival

50th Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival 2012

You are invited to attend the shows on Thursday 6th December at 7.30 pm and Friday 7th December at 7.30 pm and presentation of awards at the Hotel Le Meridien – Ballutta. Additional shows are also being held on the 1st and 15th December at British Legion Hall, Melita Street, Valletta, at 10.30am. Entrance for all the shows is free. The 50th Golden Knight Malta International Short Film Festival


The Malta Cine Circle is currently accepting national and international film submissions for this year’s festival, scheduled to take place at the end of November. The submission deadline for the 50th ‘Golden Knight Malta International Short Film Festival’ is September 30, 2012. 

The main goal of the Golden Knight Film Festival is to strengthen the art of film-making in Malta, thus helps the average picture-goer understand better the skills and techniques of cinematography, and therefore be able to fully appreciate the art of cinema. 

All individuals, groups or clubs and undergraduate or postgraduate students are encouraged to submit their short movies not exceeding 30 minutes duration in all class categories. The Festival does not charge entry fees. Eligible applicants can download Submission Regulations and Entry Form by clicking here.

The Malta Cine Circle’s annual National Film Competition is to be held at Gemini Hall, Hotel Le Meridien, Balluta on Thursday, August 9th, starting at 7.30pm. There is going to be screened 9 participating short films, all produced locally, followed by presentation of awards.

This event goes back to the mid-50's. Hundreds of local productions have been entered in this competition and several have also successful in competitions overseas. These films, ranging from fiction, travelogues, documentaries, animations, and others have provided a unique visual record of the Maltese way of life over these years.

We again welcome you to the National Film Festival 2012. This year’s festival is now open for entries and we're hoping to encourage involvement from Maltese filmmakers.
