Record Number of Entries for the Golden Knight Film Festival


















The Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival, organised by the Malta Cine Circle, this year enters its 49th edition. The festival   enjoys a high reputation and prestige in the world of short film festivals. Proof of this is the fact that  325 productions, from 48 countries have been received  to participate in the festival.

The judging took place last week and the adjudicating panel has published the results. The festival will be held at the last week of November.

On the 22nd, 23rd, 25th and 26th evening shows (7.15 pm) will be held at Dar l-Ewropa, Valletta, where a selection of the participating films from various countries will be shown.

On Saturday 27th, November the winning films will be shown and the awards presented. The evening will be held at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall (Med. Conference Centre - Valletta) at 7.15pm.

The 49th Golden Knight Malta International Short Film Festival

The Malta Cine Circle is currently accepting national and international film submissions for this year’s festival, scheduled to take place at the end of November. The submission deadline for the 49th ‘Golden Knight Malta International Short Film Festival’ is September 30, 2010. 

The main goal of the Golden Knight Film Festival is to strengthen the art of film-making in Malta, thus helps the average picture-goer understand better the skills and techniques of cinematography, and therefore be able to fully appreciate the art of cinema. 

The festival is divided into three classes. Class A compounds productions with non-commercial purposes; Class B accommodates film school students for productions made by students during their film school studies; and Class C is open for productions which do not qualify under Class A or Class B.

All individuals, groups or clubs and undergraduate or postgraduate students are encouraged to submit their short movies not exceeding 30 minutes duration in all class categories. Bħalissa l-Malta Cine Circle qiegħed jilqa’ sottomissjonijiet ta’ films lokali, kif ukoll dawk barranin, għall-edizzjoni tal-Festival ta’ din is-sena, skedata li tittella’ fl-aħħar ta’ Novembru. Id-data tal-għeluq tas-sottomissjonijiet fid-49 edizzjoni tal-‘Golden Knight Malta International Short Film Festival’ hija t-30 ta’ Settembru, 2010.

L-għan ewlieni tal-Golden Knight Film Festival huwa li jsaħħaħ l-arti tal-film-making f’pajjżna, għalhekk għandu jgħin lill-pubbliku jifhem iżjed is-sengħa u l-maestrija taċ-ċinematografija, u b’hekk wieħed jikseb il-ħila li japprezza sewwa l-arti taċ-ċinematografija.

Il-Festival huwa maqsum fi tliet kategoriji differenti. Klassi A magħmula minn  produzzjonijiet b’għan mhux kommerċjali; Klassi B tikkonsisti f’xogħlijiet akkademiċi li jitwettqu matul kors tal-film taħt isem ta’ skola; u Klassi Ċ tħaddan kull xogħol, maħdum film, li ma jikkwalifikax taħt Klassi A jew Klassi B.

Kull individwu, grupp jew għaqda, u student universitarju li għadu qed jistudja għall-ewwel grad jew baqa’ jistudja wara li ggradwa, huwa mħeġġeġ jissottometti l-films qosra tiegħu li ma jaqbżux il-ħin ta’ 30 minuta. Ma hemm l-ebda ħlas għad-dħul. Applikanti eleġibbli jistgħu jniżżlu r-Regolamenti tas-Sottomissjoni u l-Formola tad-Dħul billi jikklikja hawn.

The results for this year's 2010 National Film Competition

Award for USE OF SOUND: Y=X by Melchior and Roderick Vella Cesare
Award for BEST ACTING PERFORMANCE: The main actor in the film ‘L-Ahhar Cans’
BEST MINUTE MOVIE: War in the name of Peace by Edgar Ciancio

The presentation of awards was held at Gemini Hall, Hotel Le Meridien, Balluta. 14 participating short films, all produced locally, were screened, followed by the presentation of awards. The event was open to the public and was free of charge.
